Hellebuyck

Caniac

Put some Stank on it

Came across this take by EZ-C on Reddit in a thread about all the Hellebuyck hype and thought it was the correct one. It's a hard situation when viewing goaltending from the production lens and not the fondness lens.

Anyone who has watched this game longer than 5 minutes has seen goalies have a great season and then become shit, or mediocre at best.

Bussi had a great start to the season. Then after the break some of the puck luck ran out and he got exposed.

He had a great game 5 and 6 of the final. Meh game 4.

He is a bit erratic and not positionally sound by typical standards. That has worked for some of the best, but it's rare.

He is an awful puck handler.

Ultimately he doesn't have a long track record.

Helle does.

If you can get him, then if bussi does continue to be good, then now you have 2.

Explain how that is bad.

I'm hoping he's wrong about the long track record part, but experience here shows he's probably right.

I did see some people sharing stats about Helly that showed his success taking a hit in games where he does not see as many shots. I get that your save percentage will be worse if you let in 1 or 2 in a game when you don't see a ton, so the percentage might not be accurate to actual performance, but could be something to think about since we are a heavy shot suppressing team. All things considered I think Helly would give us some stability in goal.
